Highspeed train "Giruno" (Eurasian buzzard, referring to the bird in the romansh language, but with a "italian o" in the end) RABe 501 # 002 of the SBB, together with # 017 in multiple control, is entering the 57 kilometer long Gotthard Base Tunnel (GBT) at Rynächt near Erstfeld at 160 km/h, running as IC 679 of the line IC 21 from Basel via Lucerne to Lugano. When entered the tunnel, the train will accelerate to the track speed of 200 km/h till around Biasca in the south, for about 18 to 19 minutes, then it has to slow down to 125 km/h for the existing line towards Bellinzona. StadlerRail is delivering 29 of this 200 meter long trains till the end of this year, more then 20 are finished till now.
