An east bound BNSF intermodal, that had switched to south bound just a few miles down the rails at Kern Junction, quickly picks up some speed climbing its way out of Bakersfield and the San Joaquin Valley, through a series of roller hills, passing through the agriculture community of Edison, CA, in the last half hour of sunlight 4 days before summer solstice. The train will quickly climb another small hill to Sandcut, then drop down again into Bena before beginning it’s main assault on the Tehachapi grade at Ilmon. All will be under the cover of darkness.
