Making a stop in Orange is Metrolink train 633, heading from Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo to Los Angeles. (Fun fact: There is no mission in Mission Viejo.) Train 633 is one of the few operating northbound on Southern California Regional Rail Authority’s Orange Sub with the locomotive, in this case F125 922, on the north end of the train. This is due to the fact that this equipment was on train 811 earlier, heading from downtown Riverside to LN/MV – and trains from the Inland Empire (Riverside, San Bernardino, etc.) to Orange and San Diego Counties do have their locomotives on the north end. In Orange County, if you see the locomotive on the southern end of the train, it originated or terminates in Los Angeles, and if the locomotive is on the north end, it is an Inland Empire Service train. (Helpful, isn’t it?). But clearly there are a few trains that don’t hold to this spotting feature – heretics! (Orange, California – June 15, 2020)
