Close Call!

With the headlights and ditch lights on at first glance this looks pretty scary. But after a second you realize the train is not on the main and the woman isn't running across but rather strolly carelessly as she looks at her phone and it quickly becomes clear that this train isn't moving and is safely stopped. However, railroaders here will notice several clear safety violations that would garner the ire of their trainmaster were they to be caught doing what she is on the job!

This is the first Cape Cod Central scenic train of the season tucked in the siding at Sagamore for a moment near MP 59.6 on the state owned Mass Coastal Railroad operated Cape Main. The train made a Buzzards Bay to Barnstable round trip with around 60 passengers on board and is now dead heading back to Hyannis with the consist. They pulled in to the west end of the siding (railroad north) and are waiting for the loaded energy train from Yarmouth on it's way Rochester to pass on the main before they continue.

The ditch lights and headlights were left on the rear here for the benefit of the photographers creating the illusion of movement. But the train was safely stopped and this local and her dog were crossing at a known path that leads from the village to the long linear park along the edge of the Cape Cod Canal.

Mass Coastal's ex CDOT FL9 #2011 (blt. Sept. 1960 as NH #2038) brings up the rear here while on the other end of the four car train is sister FL9 #2026 (blt. Sept. 1957 as NH 2007).
