| NRG Energy's Will County Generating Station in Romeoville owns a pair of SD20's. Those SD20's are used to haul coal trains (delivered by UP) in and out of the plant. Both of them have quite colorful resumes, being built in 1959. The 1802 (pictured here) was built as the UP 427B (SD24B) and the 1801 was built as the SOU 2505 (SD24). Both of them also spent time with the IC/ICG during their careers. This has been the scene for over a month, as we wait to see what the next move is. Rumors of transitioning from coal to natural gas started in 2012 and continued through 2015. Somehow, the coal keeps going. |
