“Heavy Lift” Maryland Midland’s UBHF (westbound) assaults the 1.84% grade leaving Thurmont, MD. With no work at NVR Building Products this day, at least they’re favored with a running start at Catoctin Mountain. Cement loads from the Lehigh plant in Union Bridge will be delivered to the CSX interchange in Highfield.
The bridge over Church Street was refurbished in 2018. Although I would’ve preferred “WESTERN MARYLAND RAILWAY” instead of “THURMONT”, the town did give a nod to the original owner, specifying a style akin to WM Speed Lettering. The 1936 bridge was built by the Bethlehem Steel Company.
