Controversy averted. The 4:30PM Reading and Northern Railroad/Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway train (“Gorge Express“) crosses the original Jersey Central Railroad bridge across the Lehigh river at Nesquehoning Junction, now the R&N Jim Thorpe Branch, on Saturday, August 15, 2020. RBMN 425 (neé-Gulf, Mobile, and Northern Railroad 425, Baldwin 4-6-2, “Light Pacific”, built in 1928), leads on the first weekend of passenger service for the season, delayed by both the COVID-19 virus restrictions and the borough of Jim Thorpe’s unsuccessful attempt to impose an additional local tax on each ticket sold.
