An eastbound coal train begins the climb out of the East Nishnabotna River Valley as they pass this restored ex-CB&Q depot here in Red Oak. Built in 1903, the BN was going to demolish this depot in the mid-90's, but instead it was given to the city and restored and put on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1999. Passenger service ended here in 1971. This coal train bound for Monroe, MI, is working east towards Creston, IA, the next crew change point.
