Fourteen miles north of Bakersfield the BNSF Railway's Lone Star Branch splits off the Bakersfield Sub's mainline and heads west through almond groves. On March 11, 2011, train Y-BAK3071-10I waits among the almond blossoms (and a lot of bees) behind GP38 2163 and GP38-2s 2316 and 2319, which provide a splash of color to the scene. BNSF 2163 is the former Burlington Northern 2163, ex-Conrail 7834, and originally Penn Central 7834. (Shafter, California – March 11, 2011)
