At 00:39 on 01/17/69, southbound Illinois Central passenger train #25 led by a trio of E-units collided with a northbound freight that went past a red signal at Indian Oaks. Three people, including both engineers, were killed with an additional 45 people injured. The accident report can be viewed at: https://www.jonroma.net/media/rail/accident/usa/fra/rar-4149.pdf The morning after the crash, railroad and state officials are seen beginning their investigation, as the middle unit of the passenger train consists remains on its side.
