On August 28th, National Railway Equipment announced a consolidation plan that would close all operations at their Silvis and Dixmoor facilities in Illinois, as well as the facility in Milwaukee, WI. Operations will shift to Paducah, KY and Mount Vernon, IL. Many locomotives still remain as residents at these doomed facilities, including this gaggle of treasures at Silvis. An SD50 that still wears its original North Western paint and number probably stands out the most. #7009 was built in November of 1985. Iowa Interstate's Silvis Yard is seen right next door to NRE's facility and a line of their stored equipment can be seen awaiting futures. Numerous slug sets and the railroad's roster of SD38-2's make up the line, along with some business/passenger cars.
Crazy pool power consists, colorful gatherings of locomotives at a diesel service area, or a mixture of colorful locomotives in storage lines. A minimum of four different paint schemes required.
