Remarks & Notes |
Woman power for turning the cogwheel steamlocomotive HG 2/3 # 6 "WEISSHORN" on the turntable of Furka DFB. This locomotive was built in 1902 by the SLM for the Visp-Zermatt-Bahn (VZ) and according to the boiler construction, the locomotive has to run backwards down the mountain on the 11.0 % grades of the Furka mountain line. On the Visp-Zermatt, the locomotive was always chimney towards Zermatt when going up or down, there was no turntable. The locomotive was built to the "Abt system" and has an outer frame to create enough space for the cogwheel drive. 2 cylinders below the boiler drive the two cogwheels. All 4 cylinders are powered by fresh steam, so there is no compound drive. |
