West Riverside, in downtown Riverside on the BNSF Railway’s San Bernardino Sub, is where the Union Pacific joins the BNSF for the 100.6-mile segment through San Bernardino, over Cajon Pass and just beyond Barstow to Daggett, where the UP splits off again to head to Las Vegas and Utah beyond. BNSF Railway train S-LPKSCO1-25, an intermodal train running from Logistics Park Kansas City KS to Long Beach CA, leaves downtown Riverside behind as it passes the junction with the UP, whose Los Angeles Sub can be seen just above the BNSF train, heading to Los Angeles via the San Gabriel Valley, while the BNSF’s San Bernardino Sub head further south to pass through Orange County – and both lines end up on opposite sides of the street in Vernon, just south of downtown Los Angeles. This BNSF intermodal train is powered by ES44AC 5936 and SD70ACe 8496 up front, with ET44C4 3928 assists on the rear. (Riverside, California – September 28, 2020)
