Remarks & Notes |
"Black smoke is wasteful." There's a placard on the front wall of the coal fence on the tender of 611 that proclaims black smoke as wasteful. That sign is large enough and positioned perfectly to garner the attention of 611's fireman as the person turns to leave the seat. At the N&W Reunion of Steam event on the Strasburg Rail Road in 2019, a number of steam "boomers" from around the northeast took their turns firing this "Queen of Steam Locomotives" as she made run-bys for photographers with a freight consist. On this particular run-by, a well-known hogger from in-state gave it his shot as the train made its way up the grade westbound to Esbenshade Road.....with rather spectacular results. Lucius Beebe and Charles Clegg would have loved it. N&W Management back in the day......not so much. |
