Nevada Northern announced they were going to be having a send off, for number 40 on Saturday, October 17. The 40's last run was supposed to be the 17th before it goes down for in 15 year boiler tear down. For the occasion they had 40, 93, and 81 all under steam. 81 won't be completed until next spring. But they already have fire in her belly, and making steam. I had never seen 40 run and decided, this was my chance, or wait 2 more years at least. So I made the 230 mile trip from my home, and man did it exceed my expectations. I knew they were going to have a celebration with the three steamer after 40's run. To my understanding they sold out the trip, and add more cars, turning the trip into a double headed. They have also got permission to run 40 until Monday, now changing the train from diesel, to being pulled by 40. I walked into a double header, and my day just kept getting better and better.
