After making the descend down the southeast side of the Missionary Ridge grade Southern Railway GP38-2 Nº 5000 has the dynamic brake on as the 2,000 horsepower locomotive bring TVRM train Nº 300 south through the most picturistic crossing location at Lytle Road crossing. We're on the outskirt of the Chickamauga National Military Park and, the final stretch on the first leg of the excursion trip to Chickamauga, GA. Once the train has arrive at the depot, the handsome late tuxedo painted geep will run around the train and, get ready for orthbound return trip will come at some point during the afternoon hours. Just imagine it's the mid to late 1970s, and the presence of the Southern Railway through this section old Central Of Georgia CR&S route was a common sight.
Selected photos of locomotives, passenger cars, and rolling stock in the Southern's livery as well as other assets once belonging to or used by the Southern.
