Remarks & Notes
Owned by the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum in Calera, Alabama, Birmingham Southern Alco HH900 is the last of it's kind from the 900 series. NÂș82 holds the title for being the oldest remaining example from the HH models built and also holds the title of being the oldest turbocharged diesel locomotive in North America. 82 was built by Alco in March 1937 for Birmingham Southern and was retired then sold to Cast Iron Pipe Company in 1962, it was retired from CIPC and donated for preservation in the mid 1980's after suffering a broken crankshaft in it's McIntosh & Seymour 531 prime mover. The 82 remains 99% mechanically intact even after it's cosmetic restoration that took place in 2014. The historic locomotive spends it's time under a shed, but was brought out for a special photo charter on November 8, 2020.
