BNSF train S-LPCLHG1-08 arrived at Esperanza (milepost 35.6 on the San Bernardino Sub) at 5:56 pm (17:56) the previous evening, having originated in Chicago’s Logistics Park. And it was still there at 4:00 pm (16:00) the next day, not long after this photo was taken. And I would not be surprised to find it there for the next week, as these trains often sit in Santa Ana Canyon for several days to a week, awaiting an opening at Hobart Yard or in the Ports of Los Angeles/Long Beach. If it hadn’t tied down, though, I would have missed the opportunity to photograph this 23-year-old engine still proudly wearing its original Superfleet paint scheme, which has held up surprisingly well. Eventually, this train will head west again and arrive at Los Angeles Harbor’s Global Gateway South to unload its containers for a return trip to China to get reloaded and head back to the US.
