On December 13, 2020, Indiana's Dubois County Railroad and their affiliated passenger arm, the French Lick Scenic Railway, operated a photo freight out of French Lick to Dubois featuring DCRR Alco S2 No. 78 in a fresh dress of the old Algers, Winslow & Western colors but lettered for the DCRR, paired with the FLSR's AW&W Alco RS-1 No. 4, making for a nicely matched set of power.
Participation in this event was limited to 20 people, who rode in two coaches placed on the tail end of the train, behind the caboose of the short freight consist. All CDC and State of Indiana Covid guidelines were observed under the watchful eye of the staff, and the event was spectacular.
The shot that most of us thought was worth the ticket price alone would be this one, at the South Portal of Burton Tunnel, near the tiny community of Norton, Indiana. Here's to hoping they offer more trips like this in the future!
