Burlington Northern train 101 rumbles through Budd, Illinois, on August 21, 1994, led by a rare EMD BL20-2 locomotive. Three BL20-2s were built on the frames of former BN GP9s, and featured a rebuilt turbocharged 16-567 engine rated at 2,000 h.p., mated with an AR10 alternator and a Dash 2 electrical system, along with an all-new cab and carbody. The unique prototype units were built by EMD in 1992 and were numbered 120-122, but EMD garnered no orders for the locomotives.
