Led by nose-to-nose SW1500’s, Conrail local WHRE-99 crosses the rain-swollen Schuylkill River in the shadow of Metropolitan Edison’s Titus Generating Plant. WHRE-99 originated in Reading, and went east to Pottstown, where it served industries on the Pottstown Industrial Track. Between Reading and Pottstown, its two biggest customers were the Vulcan Materials and Pottstown Trap Rock stone quarries in Dyers and Stowe, respectively. As a result, ballast hoppers were frequently seen trailing the power.
