An empty set of coal hoppers awaits a refill outside of Eckman, WV as Norfolk Southern #8044 passes under the signals at the west end of the yard on January 28, 2021 along the former Norfolk & Western right of way. This is one of the few places on the Pocahontas Division heading west that you can get ahead of the train since, quite ironically, the railroad in this part of the country quite literally bypasses the road system utilizing a system of tunnels while nearing Welch, WV.
