Remarks & Notes |
"Alcohol in the Snow Malverne"
One of Long Island Rail Road's Alcohol Trains heads west past Malverne Station towards Valley Stream on the West Hempstead Branch.
LIRR's alcohol trains consist of two MP15ACs sandwiching a single retired M1/ M3 or retired Budd M3 pair equipped with special shoes that spray an alcohol based solution onto the third rail to prevent icing during inclement winter weather. Ice on overrunning third rail can result in arcing which affects electric trains ability to collect power. |
