Reading Company's Willow Grove StationThis station was built in 1939, replacing the original stone structure which was built in 1886. Train service at Willow Grove station is provided along the Warminster Line of SEPTA Regional Rail, which runs south to Center City Philadelphia and north to its terminus at Warminster, though the ROW continues on to New Hope. Most Warminster Line trains continue through the Center City Commuter Connection tunnel and become Airport Line trains, providing service to the Philadelphia International Airport.
Willow Grove appeared on a map of Pennsylvania townships about 1792. The planting of willow trees to absorb the surrounding swampland strengthened the decision to give Willow Grove its name. The townwship was once well known for Willow Grove Park, an amusement park that was actually built by the Philadelphia Rapid Transit Company. It was open from 1896 to 1976 and is now the site of Willow Grove Park Mall. By the mid-19th century, Willow Grove served as a summer vacation retreat for Philadelphia residents.
