The next phase of a project to convert the former Reading /SEPTA Newtown branch has been completed, with the rails, and now ties removed, the grading of the right of way by the historic 1892 built station. The rail to trail project will shortly be paved and become part of the Pennypack trail extending all the way into Philadelphia along a good portion of the former branch line. It will become part of what's known as "The Circuit", an 800-mile bicycle circuit that runs throughout the Delaware Valley. Work is in progress at a slower pace to transform the northern end of the trail into Newtown as well. There was a "Rails & Trails" movement at one time... I'm not going to hold my breath.
