Reading's Bryn Athyn StationBuilt by the Reading Railroad in 1902, this station sits near the Pennypack Creek in Bryn Athyn and was part of Reading Company's Newtown Branch. It later served as SEPTA's Fox Chase/Newtown Line until January 18, 1983 when service in the diesel-only territory north of Fox Chase was cancelled. Today, the station is served by the US Post Office and the former right of way, part of the Pennypack rail trail.
Bryn Athyn was founded as a religious community in the late 19th century by members of a Christian denomination known as the New Church. The borough is located Just a mile from the Philadelphia border. The name "Bryn Athyn" was intended to mean "Hill of Unity" by its founders. "Bryn" is Welsh for "hill"; the source of "athyn" is unclear.
