After shooting this train coming down the grade, I raced down 10 miles of dirt roads to get back to civilization. I wanted to take to the air and show off an aerial view of the Broadview Sub. The line in the bottom is the Laurel Subdivision, running from Laurel (Mossmain) to Great Falls. Just to the right at a location called Walter Jct (named after Walter Breuning, the oldest man in the US at the time and former GN employee), the Broadview Sub splits off and heads northeast. Coming into Walter, the trains soar over the fields on a massive berm thats over a mile long. Take into consideration that this line was built brand new through all this land in 2008-09 and it's truly an engineering marvel, especially some of the cuts further up the line! Although the train is leaving an area that looks like a desert, heading to the mine they will climb through fields, prairie, badlands and pine forests. A little something for everyone!
