Remarks & Notes |
AMTK No. 619 leads a Regional Express west through Elizabeth, NJ. Amtrak trains used to stop here but service was ended in 1973. The original station was built in 1835, though later replaced when the line was elevated in 1903. That depot was located on the westbound side (seen here in 1953 in a photo by John Dziobko), but destroyed in a fire in May of 1971. Work has commenced on a project to replace both the rebuilt inbound and outbound station shelters along with a rebuilding of the high level platforms extending each side to 300 linear feet to accommodate 12-car train boarding capacity. The improvements are part of a $71 million project to completely modernize Elizabeth Station. |
