“The Bridge on the Creek Little Pipe” MMID’s UBST, with crushed stone loads from the Barrick Quarry, crosses the Little Pipe Creek Trestle at 09:44 on March 8, 2021.
The 707-foot long structure, which dates from 1902-03, is located at MP 52.6 (miles from Columbia, PA) on the former PRR Frederick Secondary. The stone piers of the south end of the bridge (seen here) rest in Frederick County, while the piers north of the creek lie in Carroll County. The original construction here, dating from 1872, included a Bollman Truss, and was built, not by POWs, but by Wendel Bollman’s firm, the Patapsco Bridge and Iron Works.
