On the morning of June 5, 1993, Burlington Northern’s train 4, led by LMX GE B39-8 No. 8540, rolls eastbound over one of the Sinsinawa River truss bridges at milepost 172 west of Portage, Illinois. This location is on the BN main line along the Mississippi River between Savanna and East Dubuque, and at that point, is a joint operation with Chicago Central between Portage and East Dubuque. Before CC, it was Illinois Central Gulf (formerly IC), and at one time, the tracks were also used by Chicago Great Western on trackage rights.
