Number three from my Covid gallery of pictures close to home. The BNSF makes its single track ABS entry into the Bay Area via Franklin Canyon. Fortunately much of the surrounding country side has become open space, with miles of great hiking trails and expansive views from the ridge tops. So during the pandemic it was great to be able to get out of the house and go hiking, and not incidentally find overlooks where we could watch the trains go by. This spot involves a three mile hike, 400 foot climb, and a reasonably long lens, but provides a wonderful view of the BNSF winding up the one percent toward the summit tunnel. Far in the distance across San Pablo Bay is Sonoma Valley. We visited this spot many times while the hills were brown, so it was nice to get up after a little rain and see the hills turning their all too brief spring green.
