Union Station in New Haven was for many years famous as the changeover point between electric operations and steam/diesel operations on the former New Haven Railroad's Shore Line and Springfield Line. Much of that went away with the electrification of the line to Boston in 2000, but through Amtrak trains going up the Springfield Line still have to switch power here. The 1920-built station is a busy place these days even with COVID-19 traffic declines, serving Amtrak, Metro-North, Shore Line East, and CTrail trains.
