On this day in 1976, the Erie-Lackawanna, Lehigh Valley, Jersey Central, Lehigh & Hudson River, Reading, Penn-Reading Seashore Lines, Buffalo Creek, Niagara Junction, and Ironton railroads all disappeared from the fabric of the railroad scene, all circling around the vortex of insolvency caused by the inept management of the Penn Central. A few weeks prior, Lehigh Valley westbound train AM-1 is seen catching the last of the day in the Lehigh River Valley at Treichlers, Pennsylvania.
