NRG’s Will County Generating Station in Romeoville, IL owns 2 EMD SD20 locomotive’s. Those SD20's are used to deliver coal trains in and out of the plant that Union Pacific delivers to them. One of the SD20’s, #1802 is 90% of the time parked in front of 135th Street at the front of the plant behind a fence, which is never really used. 1802 was built as UP SD24B 427B back in August of 1959. The other SD20, #1801 is usually WCCH’s main locomotive that they use to bring coal into the plant while the 1802 isn’t in use. The 1801 was built as SOU SD24 #2505 in October of 1959.
#1801 is seen here pulling a cut of empties out of the Yard outside the plant, putting the different cuts of empties into one train for Union Pacific to come and pickup after finishing unloading the last cut of empties in the plant 45 minutes before.
