Remarks & Notes |
Rows of retired PBNE swichers rust away in Saucon Yard. The Philadelphia Bethlehem & New England Railroad was the wholly owned shortline railroad of Bethlehem Steel. It operated in and around the Beth Steel complex and interchanged with the Lehigh Valley and Reading railroads and later with Conrail and NS. The plant was in operation till November 1995 but PBNE continued years after switching local industries as well as the growing intermodal and transload facility nearby. In 2003 the railroad was sold and a new railroad was formed called Lehigh Valley
Rail Managment (LVRM). Today newer locomotives are used so the old switchers lay silent here rusting away. |
