Norfolk Southern #1813, presumably on the head end of NS 393, heads west on April 26, 2021 along the former Norfolk & Western Pocahontas Division in the sleepy town of Iaeger, WV. Once a bustling town integral to the N&W's coalfield operations, Iaeger's population has fallen into steep decline since the ongoing decades long downturn in the West Virginia coal industry. As I stood there waiting for the train to arrive, I could not help, but think of how much this scene has changed in merely 30 years. A local citizen soon drove by and stated, "If you're going to take pictures of my town, make sure to send me a cut of the action!".
