Flying just below the clouds Powered by lone GE ES44C4 No. 8068, a westbound BNSF “Boeing Special” passes over the causeway west of Trout Creek, Montana, on October 13, 2017. These fuselages are built by Spirit AeroSystems, and are being shipped from Wichita, Kansas, to Boeing in Renton, Washington, for final assembly. They are shipped on specially-modified BNSF 89-foot flatcars and besides being a wide load, the length of the fuselage is over 100 feet, so idler flatcars are also used for each one, under the tail section. This train is a bit unusual—there are normally additional oversize parts cars also included in the consist.
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
