An eastbound Chicago Central & Pacific coal train rumbles through Joliet, Illinois, on February 22, 1989. CC&P was formed on August 27, 1986, to operate Illinois Central’s Chicago to Omaha, Nebraska, main line and associated branches to Cedar Rapids and Sioux City, Iowa. Several regional railroads like CC&P and IAIS relied heavily on rebuilt GP8 and GP10 locomotives from Illinois Central as early power for their trains. This coal train was unloaded at the ComEd power plant just south of Joliet and is now head back north for home rails.
