Rudolph Takes Flight At Gaviota. Crossing the 121-year-old trestle at Gaviota, Calif., AMTK 161 leads the northbound Coast Starlight across the 811-foot long span on a hot, June afternoon. The specially painted unit on the point of today's train is part of a series of anniversary paint schemes Amtrak is unveiling to help celebrate the company's 50th anniversary this year. With its exceedingly bright red nose that pays tribute to Amtrak's first paint scheme, Phase I, some have jokingly nicknamed this unit "Rudolph."
