Rumors have been floating around that the coal fired, Midwestern Generating Station in Romeoville would possibly close down in the near future, or make a transition to Natural Gas. Now that rumor is basically true. On June 1, 2022 the plant is rumored to close down, just like some of the nearby plants that have made a transition to Natural Gas or have just closed entirely in the past years. The plant owns 2 EMD SD20 locomotive’s. Those SD20's are used to deliver coal trains in and out of the plant that Union Pacific delivers to them. The WCCH 1802 was built as UP SD24B 427B back in August of 1959. The locomotive seen here, WCCH 1801 was built as SOU SD24 2505 in October of 1959. On a humid summer morning, the sun pokes through a open patch in the clouds as the old Southern 2505 gets on It’s hands and knees street running down Material Road bringing in 40 coal loads into the plant.
