Out of Territory: NJT 4302 is operating in freight service out of NJ Transit territory. NS H02 needed additional horsepower to bring cars west from Dover to Washington and borrowed NJT 4302 to assist. Reportedly, the crew had trouble with the unit acting as leader. While operating west of Hackettstown in non-cab signal territory, the engine continually put its train into penalty. At the time, the Washington Secondary was rated for 20 MPH. Despite being in DCS/no-code mode, the engine proved to be too difficult and the engineer moved to the second unit, NS 3000, to operate. NS 3000 (GP40-2) formerly was CR 3275 and RDG 3671 and was one of three former Reading units on the Norfolk Southern Roster. It was donated to the Association of American Railroads in April of 2021 after spending several years on assignment working in Peublo, CO at the FRA Testing Center. NJT 4302 was originally a GP40 for Penn Central as PC 3197 and Conrail as CR 3197.
