Canyon in Snow
Eastbound priority oil from Utah is impatiently moving through the depths of the canyons cut by South Boulder Creek east of Pinecliffe, Colorado. Intense red orange sunrise light moments after sun up fill the Great Divide with a golden orange glow dancing with a fresh foot of powder left overnight by a sudden winter storm. A lifelong dream to witness or see this spectacle was fulfilled on this January day in 2021. My imagination runs wild with the prospects of an L77 2-6-6-0 Denver & Salt Lake doubleheader with a gigantic white steam plum rolling behind a mixed train of 40’ wood cars. If only I could have witnessed this, for the time being this Union Pacific train will do nicely, 10 minutes longer and this golden orange sunrise light so short lived would be gone. By noon most of the trees will have lost their flock of snow.
