Joliet Union Station....where it all started for me as a kid. I have many fond memories of watching trains at that very platform, including what is shown in this photograph...Warbonnets. Nearly 26 years after the BN and ATSF merged, it's still possible to shoot Warbonnets leading mainline trains on the BNSF. C44-9W #649 may look tired and faded, but I always cared more about the history. Sister #763 trails and its paint has managed to hold up quite well. The two veterans are in charge of a westbound Blue Island, IL to Clovis, NM vehicle train as they pass the old station and UD Tower. Union Station opened in 1912 and while it closed in 2014 in favor of the Joliet Gateway Center, it is still open for weddings and special events.
