SCL, L&N and Western Railway of Alabama - The Family Lines - initiated two pairs of run-through trains in 1973. One pair - 215/216 - ran between Hamlet and NOLA. The first couple years of operation, they ran almost exclusively with GP40s and GP40-2s. Once in a great while, though, other diesel models would show up, as on this day when an SD35 led the way down previously all B-B WofA/A&WP. That crew member must have had a long night to stretch out and nap on the concrete in the Alabama sun.
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
