The Pilatus Bahnen, steepest cogwheel railway worldwide with up to 48.o % from Alpnachstad to the Pilatus Kulm, has an electric freight railcar to bring goods, especially for the supply of the hotel and restaurant, to the mountain. In the moment, there are construction works in the mountain station in order to bring Pilatus Kulm into compliance with the provisions of the Disability Equality Act. So this freight railcar is running up and down the whole day. Ohe 1/2 # 31, built in 1954 by SLM and MFO, is on the Mattalp, running up between Aemsigen and Pilatus Kulm. The drivers cab is in the rear, the driver must watch the track from there, with an attendant riding at the head of the vehicle. Below the vehicle you can see the two horizontal cogwheels which engage with the rack from the side, with a locking washer underneath, which roll along the so-called Vautrin rail underneath the rack and guide the vehicle. The support wheels of the vehicle have external flanges.
