This is an Atlanta, GA-Florence, SC train, operated in conjunction with Georgia Railroad. It is sort of a 'leftover' from pre-SCL days when this route was Atlantic Coast Line's primary route between Richmond and Atlanta. After the merger, the former SAL main through Hamlet became the preferred route, and this line and GARR lost a big chunk of their pre-merger traffic. Interesting power on this day, with a real Family Lines mix - SCL SD35/SCL U33B/L&N U23B in FL paint/A&WP GP40 729.
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
