Amtrak recently reinstated service to Vermont after a long COVID-19 hiatus, including Trains 55/56 "Vermonter" service operating between Washington, D.C. and St. Albans, VT. Here, northbound Vermonter 56 crosses the Connecticut River between Bellows Falls, VT and North Walpole, NH. The train operates on the New Hampshire side of the river for about 25 miles between North Walpole and Cornish before cutting back into Vermont at Windsor.
The successor to the Montrealer, the Vermonter runs between St. Albans, Vt., and Washington, DC. Much of the northern part of the route runs along the Connecticut and White Rivers.
