| The Lakes States Railway has a remote job that services a handful of customers near the lakeshore in Port Huron, MI.
In this shot Looking north, you can see Canada on the right and the Blue Water International Bridge which crosses the St Claire river between the two countries. There is even a Great Lakes freighter visible working its way out of the mouth of the river into Lake Huron.
The job works from the bridge here across the Black Water River servicing a few customers in this area. Momentarily, the crew will lower the bridge to provide headroom for switching. They would then run across it later in the day to deliver interchange cars to Canadian National. a few miles to the west. Eventually they make their way down to Dunn paper which is on the water's edge just past the Blue Water Bridge.
Until recently this had been a once a week-ish assignment but today marked the first day of regular scheduling. This will now be on duty every Sunday at 9am. Good news for anyone else looking to check out this unique and interesting operation with friendly crews in a beautiful setting. |
