Former Erie-Lackawanna GP35 No. 2577 now bearing Conrail blue as No. 3683 leads a westbound freight on No.2 track at signal bridge 1525/1526 - the westward distant signals to Mifflin interlocking. In the late fifties as passenger business declined, the former four-track PRR mainline was reduced to three for much of the territory between Harrisburg and Altoona. The middle track was thence signaled for movement in both directions - thus the westbound freight on the alignment of what was previously the eastward freight track. Around 1985 this territory was double-tracked with CTC replacing the lineside towers and a significant number of the appealing signal bridges were removed, including the one at MP 152.5 seen here. Signals on masts were thence relocated to Port Royal, a mile farther to the east.
