On a morning that threatened rain – unusual in southern California in August – BNSF Railway’s Q-NYCLAC6-27 has a pair of Norfolk Southern engines for power … not a surprise on this train, which has NS power more than it has BNSF engines of late. Norfolk Southern 4104, a Dash 9-44CW rebuilt in December 2018 to an AC-powered AC44C6M leads the train through Atwood (where Metrolink’s 5½-mile long Olive Sub diverges from BNSF’s San Bernardino Sub to connect the Metrolink’s Orange Sub to head south to Oceanside and, eventually, San Diego – but this train will stay on the San Berdoo Sub) and is MUed with NS ET44AC 3679. [This is the second time I’ve caught NS 4104 on the point, as seen HERE in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, in 2019.] (Placentia, California – August 31, 2021)
